Review the firewall and network requirements required to allow the net2phone Canada system, devices, and provisioning services to communicate properly. If these ports and IP ranges are blocked, phones may fail to register, calls may fail, or audio issues such as one-way audio may occur.
Most networks do not require firewall changes
The net2phone Canada Sync service has been engineered to work in most environments without requiring changes to firewalls or other network components. This guide contains information that may help optimize the network for net2phone Canada’s Hosted PBX service.

Ensure the following protocols and ports are allowed on your network for proper functionality.

Disable SIP ALG on SIP-aware devices
Some network devices include a SIP ALG (Application Layer Gateway) feature that can interfere with call signalling and audio. Disable SIP ALG or SIP Helper on your router or firewall.
Look for settings labelled Enable SIP, SIP ALG, or SIP Helper and disable them.
SIP ALG can cause call issues
SIP ALG may cause registration failures, dropped calls, or one-way audio. Disabling this feature is recommended for VoIP traffic.

Bandwidth requirements
Each concurrent phone call uses approximately 88 Kbps in both directions. If two internal extensions are communicating, bandwidth usage doubles.
Quality of Service (QoS) and DiffServ prioritization
To help ensure optimal voice quality, prioritize traffic marked with EF (Expedited Forwarding) using the following values.

Many third-party networks choose not to honour these markings. However, net2phone Canada equipment does add them to real-time packets.
Cisco device configuration
On Cisco devices, disable the SIP helper using the following commands:
router(config)#no ip nat service sip tcp port 5060
router(config)#no ip nat service sip udp port 5060Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 router is not compatible with net2phone Canada Sync
The Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 modem/router combo is not compatible with net2phone Canada service. Neither a firmware update nor bridge mode will resolve issues caused by its DOCSIS processing.
