Porting your business phone number to net2phone Canada typically takes 7–10 business days once the required information has been submitted correctly. Unlike a mobile number transfer, a business number port requires verification and coordination between net2phone Canada and your current telephone provider.

The exact timing depends partly on how quickly your current provider reviews and responds to the port request. Once they approve the request, we can confirm the scheduled port date.

Why does number porting take time?

A business number port is a carrier-to-carrier transfer. Before your number can move to net2phone Canada, the information you provide must be verified against the records held by your current provider.

  1. You provide the required information. Your port request includes a signed Letter of Authorization (LOA) and a recent invoice from your current provider.
  2. We verify and submit the request. The port request is sent to your current provider for review.
  3. Your current provider responds. Once the request is approved, the provider returns a confirmed port date.
  4. We complete and test the transfer. On the scheduled date, your number is transferred to net2phone Canada and tested.

When is my port date confirmed?

The date requested when your port is submitted is not yet a guaranteed transfer date. Your confirmed port date becomes available after your current provider reviews and approves the request.

What can delay a number port?

Your current provider checks the information in the port request against the information they have on file. If the details do not match, the request may be rejected and need to be corrected and resubmitted.

Common reasons for a rejected or delayed port include:

  • The business or account name does not match your current provider's records.
  • The service address is incorrect, or a billing address was provided instead.
  • The person who signed the Letter of Authorization is not authorized to make changes to the account.
  • The provider listed on the request is not the carrier that currently owns the number.
  • Other services, such as fax, alarm, internet, or payment terminals, depend on the line being transferred.

Make Sure Your Information Matches

The company name, service address, and phone number provided for the port should match the information held by your current provider. Even a small difference can cause the request to be rejected and delay the transfer.

Important guidelines during a number port

Follow these guidelines while your port is in progress to help prevent delays or interruptions.

Do not change or cancel your current service

Do not cancel, move, or make changes to the telephone service associated with the numbers being transferred while the port is in progress. Changes to the account can cause your current provider to reject the port request.

Wait until net2phone Canada confirms that the port is complete before cancelling your previous service. You may continue to receive charges from your previous provider until you cancel that service.

Identify if other services are using the line

Before the port, determine whether any other services depend on the telephone line you are transferring, such as:

  • Fax services
  • Alarm systems
  • Internet services
  • Debit or credit card terminals

These services may stop working when the number is transferred. Tell your Onboarding Agent about any dependent services before the port so they can discuss your options with you.
